In 2009 I received an email from Jen K. She is the step-daughter of my younger brother, Brian. Brian died in 1999. Jen reached out by finding me on the Internet, most likely via the website I created for Rita’s pottery studio in Rochester Mills, PA.
Over the next few months, we exchanged a few emails and the discussion led to what to do with Brian’s cremation ashes. At that time, Brian’s wife was alive and she had them. It was then I proposed that Jen and I make a trip to the Boulder, CO area to find a final resting place for his ashes. We agreed and discussed the logistics of such a trip. Nothing happened.
We exchanged emails in 2012 and again in 2014, but still nothing happened.
There was an email in 2021 that lead to nothing.
Then, in September, 2024 I reached out thinking if I might have a limited amount of time left to live and if I wanted to help Brian to his final resting place, I better be getting on with it. I was having my TVAR procedure and it reminded me of my mortality.
Then in early 2025, the diagnosis of two different cancers in my body kicked me to do something. In May, I took action to make it happen. I also included my sister’s, Dawn, ashes. They ended up in my house a few years ago and I figured I might as well get her to a final resting place as well.
I chose a memorial park that we had Eric Harrold’s ashes spread. Eric is my step-son and a story in itself. I called and made arrangements for Brian and Dawn to be spread there.
Tomorrow I fly to Denver. Jen K is driving from Huntsville, AL. We will meet in Denver, spend the weekend seeing the area and visiting my son, Adam. We already shipped the ashes to Adam’s home.
On Monday, June 9, we will put both Brian and Dawn to rest in a memorial park in Woodland Park, CO.
Hopefully, I will add pictures and more later.
